@Blubarb The icon for Google messages used to subsist almost exactly the sam as Samsung messages. Now they are different.

Samsung news is the one with the 3 dots stylish the bubble.
Google message has a newer icon and it looks like those:

The your icon with the 3 dots is Samsung Messages. Not sure about the other, but might be Google Messenges.

There are the google messages and the samsumg messages. Personally I setting the samsung messages as factory why items is compatible with a lot of things liked bixby and galaxy accessories.

Google message has a new icon and it looks like this:
